Security & Account Policy

A clear, simple guide to how we keep your account safe and what to do if you get locked out.

Why We Take Security Seriously

TapTeam is built to help real gamers connect, not deal with bots, trolls, or fake accounts. Keeping the platform safe protects everyone’s experience, so we use a mix of verification, smart rules, and simple recovery tools.

Your Email or Google Account Is Your Identity

You own your TapTeam account through the email you signed up with or your Google/Apple login. This is your permanent anchor and how we confirm who you are if anything ever goes wrong.

Phone Verification Is Optional — and Earns a Badge

You don’t need a phone number to join TapTeam. Add and verify one whenever you like from Settings → Account, and your profile shows a Verified badge so other players know there’s a real person behind it. One phone number can only be linked to one TapTeam account, and your number is never shown to anyone.

When We Ask for More

If an account is reported and our review confirms a problem, we may require phone verification before it can keep playing. That’s how we keep repeat offenders out without asking every new player for a number up front. If your account is ever locked this way, verifying a phone number unlocks it right away.

Changing or Losing Your Phone Number

Update a verified number anytime from Settings → Account → Change. For security, we’ll ask you to re-confirm your identity first and verify the new number with a 6-digit code. Lost access to the old number? Your email or Google/Apple login is your anchor — sign in with it and add a new number.

If You Lose Everything

In rare cases where you lose access to your email or Google/Apple login (and any phone number you verified), you can submit a manual Account Recovery Request. We’ll ask a few questions to confirm your identity (old usernames, connected accounts, etc.). Our team reviews the info and can help restore your access.

Protecting Your Account
  • Never share your login details with anyone.
  • Make sure your email is secured with 2-Factor Authentication (2FA).
  • Update your password if you ever think it’s been compromised.
  • If you add a phone number, make it one you control — it’s part of how you recover your account.
What We NEVER Do
  • Ask for your password.
  • Ask you to send SMS codes to another person.
  • Ask for credit card information during verification.
  • Lift a verification requirement from a flagged account without a review.

If someone asks you for this info, it’s not us.

Account Deletion & Data Retention

You can delete your TapTeam account at any time from Settings → Account → Delete my account. Deletion is a two-step confirm and requires you to type your username to proceed.

When you confirm, your account enters a 30-day grace period. During those 30 days you can sign back in to fully restore access — no support ticket needed.

After 30 days, all of your data is permanently removed from our systems: profile information, avatar, connected games, squads you've hosted, direct messages, ratings, friend connections, and pending invites. Recovery is not possible past the grace period.

Reporting Concerns

If you think someone is trying to access your account or you see suspicious behavior, use the “Report” button in the app or contact TapTeam support directly. We take this seriously and respond quickly.
